Post 6 benefits Cajun Pepper

Leading trainer Jon Arnett could not be happier with the post Cajun Pepper drew for the $25,000 Aspen at Arapahoe Park on Monday. He will break from the outside post in a field of six, the extreme opposite of his last start, when he had a troubled trip from the rail in the Arapahoe Sprint.

"The worst thing that can ever happen on this horse is to draw the one hole," said Arnett. "If he draws the one hole, it's just like the kiss of death for him."

Cajun Pepper comes into the Aspen, a six-furlong handicap for 3-year-olds and up bred in Colorado, off a fifth-place finish in the Arapahoe Sprint. He found himself racing farther back than usual in that stakes. One start earlier, Cajun Pepper was prominent throughout when he finished second to stakes winner Komax in a $25,000 claiming race at Sunland Park on April 29.

Leading rider Travis Wales has the mount on Cajun Pepper.

"I think that the horse will be pretty close on the front end this race," said Arnett.

Cajun Pepper, a four-time stakes winner, is the defending champ in the Aspen.

Folsum will be a threat if he runs back to his effort two starts ago, when he won the $50,000 Daylight Sprint at Sunland Park with a Beyer Speed Figure of 82. Another who figures is Cut of Music.
