Possessed back in his element for Ontario County

With a one-race turf experiment behind him, Possessed returns to the main track in search of his third stakes score in the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes at Finger Lakes on Friday.
The Ontario County is a six-furlong sprint for New York-bred 3-year-olds. It is carded as race 6 with a post time of 2:50 p.m. Eastern.
Possessed has won two New York Stallion Stakes this year, a seven-furlong off-the-turf race at Belmont Park in June and a six-furlong main-track sprint in April.
In his most recent start, a New York Stallion Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 10, Possessed was floated extremely wide into the first turn of a one-mile turf race and showed little thereafter, finishing last in the seven-horse field at 5-1.
A son of Posse trained and co-owned by Charlton Baker, Possessed has won from on the lead and just off the pace. He should rebound Friday.
Jaime Rodriguez, the second-leading rider at Finger Lakes as of Thursday with 87 wins, will ride.

Key contenders
Possessed (Last 3 Beyers: 35-79-63)
◗ Comes back on 11 days’ rest but did not expend much energy in his last race, which was his first start in seven weeks.
Breakin the Fever (Last 3 Beyers: 78-80-88)
◗ He has won three of his last four starts, the loss coming in the 1 1/16-mile New York Derby, his lone start around two turns. He bore out badly entering the first turn of that race, vied for the lead to the far turn, then tired badly and was eased.
◗ Based at Finger Lakes with trainer Debra Breed, he is fast and likely will set the pace from the rail under Oscar Gomez.
◗ His six wins are the most of anyone in the race. The 92 Beyer Speed Figure he earned in winning a Finger Lakes allowance race in May is the highest in the field.
Global Positioning (Last 3 Beyers: 79-84-83)
◗ He is cross-entered main-track-only in a statebred second-level optional-claiming race with a $78,000 purse at Saratoga on Friday. According to weather.com, there is a strong likelihood of rain at Saratoga on Friday, which could force turf races to the main track.
◗ He is a contender in the Ontario County if trainer Mike Hushion has jockey John Davila Jr. send him.
Gypsum Johnny (Last 3 Beyers: 75-74-46)
◗ He was claimed for $40,000 by trainer Linda Rice at Saratoga on Aug. 12. This is the second time Rice has claimed him.
