Positive tests will keep Apollitical J Wild and Dynasty Dinamo out of All American Futurity

A pair of qualifiers for the $3 million All American Futurity – Apollitical J Wild and Dynasty Dinamo – are ineligible to enter back in next month’s Quarter Horse classic at Ruidoso Downs after each returned a positive hair test for albuterol and was placed on the stewards’ list for 60 days, Izzy Trejo, executive director of the New Mexico Racing Commission, said Saturday.

Albuterol is a bronchodilator from the same family as clenbuterol. It is a Class 3 drug, but the trainers of the horses face no sanctions on hair test positives in New Mexico. They were out-of-competition tests performed after the trials, said Trejo. If the connections wish to appeal the ineligibility status, they must go through the court system rather than the commission process and as of Saturday the commission had not been notified of any pending appeals, said Trejo.

Trejo also said a qualifier for the $1.5 million All American Derby – Ryansmanonthemoon – is ineligible to enter back in the finale because of a positive hair test for albuterol. It, too, was an out of competition test after the trials. The situation puts Rustys Miracle, who lost a shake to get into the All American Derby, into the field, according to procedures governing the All American Derby, said Trejo.

The field for the All American Futurity on Sept. 2 was determined after two dates of trials Aug. 16-17. Apollitcal J Wild was the fastest qualifier on Day 2, when he won his 440-yard trial in 21.62 seconds. Dynasty Dinamo also qualified on Day 2, and by procedure the horses with the next two fastest times from Day 2 will move into the vacant spots, said Trejo. Those horses are Determined One and Amethyst.

However, the connections of Amethyst told commission officials there are no plans to enter the horse back, so the next horse on the Day 2 list, DF Mischievous Jess, moves into the vacated spot, said Trejo.

Trejo said the hair testing was done 20 deep following trials, so Determined One and DF Mischievous Jess were already tested. The field for the All American is capped at 10.

The case makes the potential All American Futurity field as follows: Passionate Paris, Lil Miss Sashay, Gonna B Famous, Determined One and DF Mischievous Jess from Day 2 and Mister Riptide, My Fast Prize, Mr Jess Jenkins, Avyator, and Elm Creek Khrome from Day 1.

The potential field for the All American Derby on Sept. 1 is American Hussle, the fastest qualifier for a 440-yard trial win in 21.13 seconds, plus America Rules, Fly Cowboy 123, Tools in the Sky, Valiant Tiberias, Jest Famous, Flash and Roll, Jess Macho Corona, Midday News, and Rustys Miracle.

There were 26 trials for the All American Futurity and 12 trials for the All American Derby. The first-place check for the All American Futurity is $1.5 million. The ceremonial draw for both races begins at 2 p.m. Mountain on Monday.
