Portland Meadows has scheduled 22 stakes for its 2010-11 meet, topped by the $80,000 Portland Meadows Oaks on Jan. 29, 2011. The Portland Meadows meeting runs from Oct. 4 to March 30, 2011. The Oaks, for 3-year-old fillies at one mile, is a part of the newly created Black-Eyed Susan 2.2 bonus program. Implemented by Portland Meadows’ owner, MI Developments, the Black-Eyed Susan 2.2 awards a bonus of up to $2.2 million to the owners of a filly who wins a series of stakes at MI Developments tracks, and then wins the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico on May 20, 2011. “Portland Meadows is very excited to be a part of the Black-Eyed Susan 2.2 bonus program,” Portland Meadows’ director of racing, Jerry Kohls, said in a release. “This stakes schedule will be our richest in recent memory with the addition of the $80,000 Portland Meadows Oaks.” Other stakes highlights at the meet include the 46th running of the Portland Mile, a $50,000 race on March 23; Oregon Championship Day, a day of five stakes for Oregon-breds on Dec. 12; and the $30,000 Portland Meadows Derby on March 23, 2011.
