Poni Colada takes Eddy County

Poni Colada became a stakes winner with a three-length win over stablemate Star Defender in the $67,110 Eddy County at Zia Park, where there was snow on the ground. Rapper S S, the 4-5 favorite in the one-mile race for 2-year-olds, finished third after setting the pace.

Poni Colada ($10.20) rated in fourth as Rapper S S raced clear through fractions of 25.60 seconds for the opening quarter and 51.40 for the half-mile mark. The eventual winner moved up through six furlongs in 1:16.60, took the lead in the stretch, and went on to cover the distance over a track rated good in 1:42.20.
