Pohdi Pohdi takes to turf in Passing Mood

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Trainer Bob Tiller won the $125,000 Passing Mood Stakes at Woodbine for the fifth time on Saturday with the speedy Pohdi Pohdi, who was making her turf debut.
With Eurico Da Silva aboard, Pohdi Pohdi outran the other speed and set moderate fractions in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies. Pohdi Pohdi maintained a daylight lead through the stretch, and got home on top by a length and a quarter over the 29-1 outsider Hot Cross Buns. Miss Sea finished a close third, and the favored Danish Princess was fourth in a field reduced to six with the scratch of Galina Point, who is entered in Sunday’s Bison City Stakes.
“I (worked) her a couple times in the spring, and I really like this filly,” said Da Silva. “We were very lucky that she liked the grass. She relaxed very well. She was busy, looking around. She gave me a good run.”
Pohdi Pohdi ($7.30) covered the distance 1:22.32 over firm ground, earning $75,000 for 3 Sons Racing Stable.
