Pocono: Three-year-old pacing fillies duke it out in a trio of Lynch Memorial eliminations

Trainer Tony Alagna has done fine work with 2- and 3-year-olds by his former trainee Captaintreacherous, but one he sent out that's by Sweet Lou, that being Odds On St Lucie, won the quickest of the three James M. Lynch Memorial eliminations for sophomore pacing fillies on Saturday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Poono. Alagna also scored with Tall Drink Hanover in another elim, while Warrawee Ubeaut turned the tables on Treacherous Reign from last Saturday's Fan Hanover in the final flight.
Racing in the second $20,000 elimination, Odds On St Lucie and driver Dexter Dunn worked to the front around Renaissance Lady K (George Napolitano Jr.) past the 27 second opening quarter, but then were challenged and overtaken by favored Zero Tolerance (David Miller) heading to the 54 2/5 half. Zero Tolerance remained on the point at the 1:22 1/5 three-quarters and continued in front around the far turn, but in the lane Odds On St Lucie dove into the passing lane, and surged by to score in 1:49 4/5. 25-1 shot Blue Ivy (Tim Tetrick) rallied from second-over and was the runner-up, a half-length behind Odds On St Lucie, and Zero Tolerance salvaged third.
Odds On Racing owns Odds On St Lucie, who is now a seven-time winner in her life and has earned $142,286. While she may be by Sweet Lou, there is a "Captain connection" to Odds On St Lucie as her dam She's Some Treasure is a full sister to him. Odds On St Lucie was sent off as the 9-5 second choice and paid $5.60 to win.
Back in the opening elimination, Tall Drink Hanover (Andrew McCarthy) dashed to the front in a 27 second first quarter, but Philly Hanover (Dunn) brushed from third and took over control before the 55 1/5 half. Philly Hanover looked comfortable through three-quarters in 1:23 and spun for home first, but McCarthy moved Tall Drink Hanover to the outside for the drive, and she was full of pace after being cut loose, getting up to win by a length in 1:50. Philly Hanover wound up second, with St Somewhere (Matt Kakaley) third.
Alagna trains Tall Drink Hanover, who is by Captaintreacherous, for owners Alagna Racing LLC., Marvin Katz, and Riverview Racing LLC. She made her ninth appearance in the winner's circle, and she has now put away $391,132. Dispatched as the even-money second choice, she returned $4.20 to win.
In the final elimination Stonebridge Soul (Tetrick) showed the most early pep, hustling away from post five and hitting the opening quarter in 27 1/5. Warrawee Ubeaut (Yannick Gingras) moved up to challenge on the outside, though, and she was able to get to the front three-eighths in. Warrawee Ubeaut would steal a soft second quarter in just 29 2/5, reaching the half in 56 3/5, so when Treacherous Reign (Dunn), who beat Warrawee Ubeaut in last week's Fan Hanover final up at Woodbine Mohawk Park, came to call from first-up heading to the 1:24 2/5 three-quarters, Warrawee Ubeaut had plenty left in reserve to repel that bid.
Treacherous Reign began to drop back on the far turn, leaving Warrawee Ubeaut and Stonebridge Soul to decide it, and it would be Warrawee Ubeaut getting to the wire three-quarters of a length to the good in 1:50 2/5. Treacherous Reign did hold on gamely for third ahead of Trillions Hanover (D. Miller), giving the Alagna barn three fillies in the final.
Warrawee Ubeaut is another daughter of Sweet Lou, trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Phil Collura, J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She now owns 11 career triumphs, and she has banked $803,353. The 3-5 choice, she paid $3.40 to win.
