Pocono: Sons of Sweet Lou, Captaintreacherous headline Pennsylvania All-Stars winners
First crop sires Sweet Lou and Captaintreacherous both have their first stakes winners as 2-year-old pacing colts took to the track in five $30,000 Pennsylvania All-Stars divisions on Sunday evening at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.
Sweet Lou's offspring posted a pair of victories, with Lyons Night Hawk (Tim Tetrick) coming out of the pocket to win the second division by a neck over Semi Tough in 1:53 3/5, and Blood Money (Yannick Gingras) taking the fourth grouping on the front-end in 1:54 3/5.
Lyons Night Hawk, who was a $60,000 Standardbred Horse Sale buy, is trained by Gareth Dowse for owner Geoffrey Lyons Mound. Bred by Vieux Carre Farms, he is the third foal out of the Western Terror mare Weapons Against (1:57 2/5, $3,225), a half-sister to double millionaire A Rocknroll Dance.
Blood Money, a Jimmy Takter trainee, is a homebred for Diamond Creek Farm. His dam is the Western Ideal mare Blood Diamond (1:55 3/5, $9,695), making him a half-brother to six-figure earners Blood Brother and Blood Line (both by Somebeachsomewhere). The dam is also a three-quarter sister to millionaires If I Can Dream and Western Terror (both by Western Hanover).
Captaintreacherous had to wait til the final flight for his winner, but it was worth the wait, as De Los Cielos Deo turned in the fastest clocking of 1:53. He advanced on the outside to take the lead going to the 57 second half, and went on to defeat fellow Captaintreacherous colt Captain Malicious (Tetrick) by half a length.
Ron Burke trains De Los Cielos Deo, a $140,000 acquisition at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Larry Karr, Jandt Silva Purnel & Libb, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. He was bred by Lou Willinger and Deo Volente Farms LLC. and is out of the Camluck mare Lisjune (1:50 4/5, $67,482), making De Los Cielos Deo a half-brother to millionaire I Luv The Nitelife (Rocknroll Hanover). The dam is also a half-sister to the likes of double millionaire Lis Mara (Cambest).
Also winning splits were Lyons Johnnyjnr (1:53 2/5) and Proof (1:53 4/5).
Lyons Johnnyjnr was another win for the Tetrick, Dowse, and Mound trio, as the $45,000 Standardbred Horse Sale purchase won in gate-to-wire fashion. Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms Inc., Lyons Johnnyjnr is out of the Art Major mare Stolly Up Bluechip (1:53 3/5, $190,657), which makes him a half-brother to two $200,000+ earners in Spider Man Hanover and Stacia Hanover (both by Western Ideal).
Proof, by A Rocknroll Dance, gave owner/breeder Diamond Creek Farm another winner, this one from the Brian Brown barn. Proof is out of the Real Artist mare Ginger And Fred (1:50 1/5, $1,928,158), and he is her second foal. The dam is a full sister to Fred And Ginger, a fellow millionaire.
There was also a $30,000 leg of the Great Northeast Open Series for pacing mares held on the card, and the winner was Diva's Image (Tetrick) as she brushed from sixth to first in the final quarter, winning in 1:49, a lifetime-best mark by two full seconds.
It was the 17th career win for Diva's Image, a 5-year-old Bettor's Delight mare trained by Jen Bongiorno for owners Joseph Bongiorno LLC., Howard Taylor, Thomas Lazzaro, and J And T Silva Stables LLC.
