Pocono: Rose Run Zeke remains undefeated in PA Sire Stakes debut

Greg Reinhart|Aug 06, 2023

Rose Run Zeke, a 2-year-old Stay Hungry gelding who'd won two overnight races, a Pennsylvania All-Stars split and an Arden Downs division coming into Sunday night at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, added a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes victory to improve his career record to five-for-five.

With Hunter Myers in the bike, Rose Run Zeke led the way through fractions of 28, 56 3/5 and 1:24 and opened up a big advantage on pocket-sitter T H Tyson (Dexter Dunn) in the middle-half of the mile. T H Tyson chipped away at Rose Run Zeke's five length head start past three-quarters but flattened out in the lane as Rose Run Zeke kept clear to prevail by a length and three-quarters in 1:51 3/5. Solid Character (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) closed well to finish third behind T H Tyson.

Trained by owner Mitchell York, Rose Run Zeke, who paid $6.20 to win as the 2-1 second choice, added the lion's share of the $42,881 purse to send his earnings to $56,564. Bred by Derek Lehman, Rose Run Zeke was purchased for $14,000 at last year's Standardbred Horse Sale.

Trainer Nancy Takter's big weekend continued with Booming Economy winning his $42,881 flight for Dunn in 1:52 1/5 after taking command out of the pocket past the opening quarter. This was career victory #1 for Booming Economy, a Captaintreacherous homebred for Howard Taylor, Chuck Pompey and Edwin Gold.

Captain Fear Not (Matt Kakaley) would visit the winner's circle after a front-stepping 1:51 2/5 decision in the second $42,881 section. Kathe Troy owns Captain Fear Not, a Captain Crunch gelding who was bred by Walnridge Farm and Bonnie Benson. Like Booming Economy, Captain Fear Not also broke his maiden with the win.

Lou Vuitton (David Miller), fresh off a Kindergarten Series triumph at the Meadowlands, won the final $42,881 showdown from second-over in 1:52 4/5, denying York trainee Aintbluenomore (Jeremy Indof) nearing the wire. Lou Vuitton, by Sweet Lou, was sent out by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Hatfield Stables, J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby and Larry Karr. Lou Vuitton, bred by Spring Haven Farm, has compiled a summary of 2-1-0 from three tries.
