Pocono: Horses to watch from Sept. 3 - Sept. 6

Ken Walters|Sep 07, 2016

Saturday, September 3

SHADES OF BAY (NW17500) raced second over and charged home strongly to win going away in last and should be able to take another.

FIRE ESCAPE (CLM12500) closed well from second over in latest to finish close to the top two choices and will gain a bigger piece in next.

MY HAPPINESS E P (NW12000) was a three-move going-away winner in last and should continue to be a major factor.

PIPECREEK YANKEE (CLM10000) followed wide and gobbled up ground and foes in the lane but had too far to come.

Sunday, September 4

SETTLEMOIR (NW5) met stern pressure twice in a down the road effort and tired over a track that was rough on frontsteppers. Should score with a less stressful trip or a more favorable track.

AL RAZA N (WO275000M) came out in the final turn, rallied strong and ran out of track.

ARMOUR HANOVER (WO27500) set the pace and was unable to hold off the late rally of the odds-on favorite.

BILBO HANOVER (NW3000) beaten favorite set a pressed pace and dug in gamely, put away the determined challenger but was necked by the fresh pocket sitting second favorite.

Monday, September 5

MANDABRA (CLM10000) favorite left, tucked, saved ground and energy, tipped in the final turn and closed strong to win convincingly.

EARLY STORM (CLM7500) sat to the third call, slipped out second over past the marker, swung wide into the lane with huge finish.

ROCK MY WORLD (CLMHCP10/12500M) came uncovered at 23-1, challenged the pacesetting favorite hard, settled for a pocket tuck by headstretch but tired.

MAX HANOVER (NW2) well bet 2YO was looped to the top and parked to the lead, set a good clip and held with confidence to impressively defeat older foes.

Tuesday, September 6

CHEZ MAHMO (NW3000) rushed up uncovered, challenged the pacesetting favorite but was a game second best.

NITRO SEELSTER (NW6000) was parked the mile, challenged the mile and tired. Beaten favorite should atone in next race or two.

PRAIRIE SWEETHEART (NW5FM) rushed to the lead, seated an early challenger and drew off the last quarter.

NUTMEGS YANKEE (NW9000M) brushed to command at nearly 9-1, faced pressure immediately and tired. The move was good enough but she can get it done with better timing.

VALLEY OF SIN (NW9000) was parked to the lead, met stern pressure, put the challenger away, faced another challenger the last three-eighths but it was too much. Beaten favorite can be heard from quick enough.
