Pocono: Horses to watch from October 13 - October 16
Saturday, October 13
BOOK BINGE (NW12000) rushed out, settled for the pocket, rallied gamely at 38-1 but got outkicked by the fast closing winner moving between horses.
GUSTAVO FRING (NW3100) raced hard uncovered, challenged and was a game 2nd at the wire.
SKYFUL OF LIGHTERS (NW9000) put in a good front-stepping effort in last on a night when speed was failing and got nipped by the favorite. Could get some racing luck in next.
MIKES Z TAM (NW9000) won going away as the odds-on favorite off a pocket trip and should take another.
Sunday, October 14
SPRINGSTEEN (W4-6) got off slowly from post 9, trailed to the final turn, swung wide, avoided bad trouble, finished fast but it was too much to ask. A better post can be all it takes.
DJOKOVIC N (NW3000) was out a long way, challenged to the lane, dug in but tired. A better trip should be enough.
MANRO (NW1) put in a solid front-stepping effort 9-1 in last outing but was nailed late by the tripped-out pocket horse.
SILVERMASS VOLO (NW18000) left lazily from post 9, appeared bored stiff at the back but finished with enough trot to earn a look with better post or a drop in company.
Monday, October 15
NATURAL KEMP (NW6600) was parked, gained cover from the winner, lost it as the lead changed, continued grinding, rallied gamely to the wire.
SNEAK ON BYE (NW3) yielded, retook, set his own clip and got nailed on the wire over a track that was not that kind to frontsteppers. Beaten favorite could get luckier in next.
ALLBASSNOTREBLE (NW3000) yielded, retook and proved much the best.
LKS NANCY LEE (CLMHCP125/15000M) rushed to the top, went down the road, battled but was second best on the board and on the track.
Tuesday, October 16
DAVIDS COMING HOME (CLM7500) tucked to the quarter, pulled uncovered to the third panel, rallied gamely missing by just a nose to the odds-on favorite.
BROADWAY BRUISER (NW4) tipped heading home and closed strongly at 16-1 gaining in the late stages.
STRAWBS CHIPPIE N (NW4000FM) went down the road to the last step getting nipped by the late-closing favorite and earns a long look in next.
FOREVER LIZA (NW17500FM) closed with good pace from third over and should improve with better trip.
