Pocono: Horses to watch from May 25 - May 28
Saturday, May 25
BLACK MAGIC (W3-7) trotter tipped in the final turn, rushed home powerfully to nail the win at over 10-1 in season debut.
TYPHOON BANNER N (NW4800) wired the field easily gearing down through the lane.
PYRO (NW9500) set a speed clip, put away a last-panel challenger and held all out to for the well-earned win.
FRANCO (CLMHCP20/25000) was second over to poor cover, rallied wide the final turn, closed well and bears watching.
BRECKENRIDGE (NW6400) It is a mystery to me why he was parked the mile chasing the prohibitive favorite. Will keep a him under surveillance the next race or two.
Sunday, May 26
PHANNYS MATTER (NW2950) saved to the final turn, tipped with good finish closing well for second to pace setting winning favorite stablemate.
ALL TOO WELL (NW1) trotter was the easiest of wire to wire winners in last.
TUXEDO BAY (CLMHCP20/25000) went to the lead, yielded and was shuffled, finish with good speed up the rail to earn second and a look in next.
PISCO SOUR (NW2) went down the road as the second choice and held gamely to the tripped-out favorite's late challenge.
Monday, May 27
FOUR SIXES (NW4) well-bet second choice set a good clip but was second best to the odds-on pocket-sitting favorite with the rest of the field far back.
ZEUS HANOVER (NW2800) went wide around dead cover, tucked the pocket by headstretch, rallied again and just missed.
LAZARUS STAR (NW1) was out third over in the final turn, got blindswitched, avoided a breaker, cleared and rallied late. Do not ignore.
MIRACULOUS DEO (NW2FM) was parked to the lead, put up some good numbers and finished it off easily. Can take another with similar effort.
Tuesday, May 28
ALWAYS IN FLIGHT and LAURIE LEE (NW4400M) Napolitano brothers' driven favorite and second favorite dueled to defeat in last encounter and either one can atone in next. Stay tuned...
BET ON MAC (NW4) left, tucked, got shuffled and sat three-holed to the lane, improved heading home and rallied well to be second to the pacesetting favorite.
FULL SCALE (NW2) sat to the final turn, rallied with good trot but had too far too come.
PENCILS DOWN (NW4400) trotter pulled past the half, rallied to reach cover, wheeled wide and rolled home to win going away.
DIEHARD SEELSTER (NW6400) sat to the final turn, slipped out, closed well to be second best.
