Pocono: Horses to watch from July 20 - July 23
Saturday, July 20
CAROLINA BEACH (CLMHCP20/25000) beaten favorite was parked the mile, challenged the pacesetting well-bet second choice, put him away and gutted out third place.
AMERICAN SON (NW2/2YO) sat pocket in slow half, pulled, brushed to the lead and was much the best.
WARRAWEE TOTAL (NW2800) second favorite was parked 2nd over, went wide, cleared, challenged the favorite's pace a long way before tiring and deserves a long look in next.
IMAGINARY LINE (CLMHCP30/40000) looking for 7th straight, tucked and was shuffled, sat in, rallied late and got up for 2nd. Could rebound in next and get a win.
WEHADABABYITZABOY (NW4600) tipped to the third panel, challenged the pace but was 3rd in the photo to the two favorites.
Sunday, July 21
JIM BLUE (CLMHCP15/17500) was 4th over with strong finish but was a head short in the photo.
DIVE BAR HANOVER (NW2/2YO) second best on the board, he was parked to the lead, set a good clip but proved second best on the track to the pocket-sitting favorite.
GIGGLINGONTHEBEACH (STALLION) favorite took the lead, yielded, sat pocket, tipped into the lane and charged home in fastest of the 7 divisions on the card.
ODDS ON ACES FULL (STALLION) left around slow ones, tucked, pulled second over past the half, rallied gamely but was nailed on the wire by the late-closing favorite.
PAPI GRAD (PaStars) the 2yo filly brushed and crushed in strong time.
Monday, July 22
BE YOUR BEST (NW1FM) left, rushed to the lead as the speed settled, met pressure from the prohibitive favorite and tired. Should be tighter in next race or two and a better trip could get it done.
MR BLUEBIRD (NW4) was second over and went wide in the final turn, closed well once into the lane. Beaten favorite should be a threat in next.
TISADREAM N (CLM7500) took the lead, yielded, got shuffled out the last turn, rallied late and the beaten favorite could atone in next.
SONOS IN THE WIND (NW4) was far back to the third panel, began a rally and closed with good trot but too late.
MISTER MELLBY (NW1) was an impressive wire to wire winner last time out.
Tuesday, July 23
JK BLACK GOLD (W4-7) rallied uncovered, challenged the pacesetting favorite but was outnosed by the well-bet pocket-sitting second favorite.
TOBAGO TIME (NW4400M) rallied around slow stuff to the third panel, tipped in the final turn, finished best of all but a bit late in a quick mile. Should be considered in next.
FIGHT NOT FLIGHT (NW4FM) sat last and closed with good pace. Should be tighter in next and should not be ignored.
SCOTTY DEO (NW10000) trotter was parked, tucked past the quarter, pulled to the third over second over and closed well to earn second at 11-1.
IMA DIAMOND BABE (NW6400) was used hard parked and challenging to the 5/8's, finally cleared but met immediate pressure, dug in, tired and finished 3rd.
