Pocono: Horses to watch from August 6 - August 9

Ken Walters|Aug 10, 2016

Saturday, August 6

POUNCE HANOVER (NW12000) put an early challenger in the pocket, faced pressure from the half to the lane, dug in gamely at 26-1 but had been softened just enough for the late-closing favorite to get up on the wire.

PONDEROSITO (CLM20000) had far to come but came wide, closed well and refused to go away but the even money favorite was all out to prevail.

STAR COVER (NW12000) roared home from 3rd over to win going away at 16-1 and has to be respected in next.

SO TAKE THAT (CLM12500) second favorite finished strongest but had too far to come. Should get the nod in next race or two.

Sunday, August 7

MONTANA PABLO A (NW3000) rallied gamely from second over on a night when speed was the rule.

KISS KISS (NW1FM) rallied well to the lead, yielded to the prohibitive favorite and was second best at every call.

SETTLEMOIR (NW5) set the pace under pressure, put away the challenger and was wrapped up through the late stages.

PEMBROKE CASTAWAY (CLMHCP20/25000) tucked, sat in, finished strong up the inside but just missed.

SOUTH SIDE HANOVER (NW5) saved, tipped, hit his best stride too late and deserves another look in next.

Monday, August 8

TORNADO TIM (NW3000) was uncovered a long way and blew by the speed entering the stretch.

DEALMAKER (NW3000) sat in,angled free of stretch traffic and finished with willing speed.

SCIROCCO BLUE CHIP (NW2) sat in, threaded his way through traffic and got up with a strong late surge.

SPIRIT SQUAD (NW2FM) came uncovered to challenge the speed and was held at bay. Beaten favorite will atone in next.

Tuesday, August 9

SWEET JESSE T (NW6000) was used hard, challenged uncovered, wore down the speed and gamed out the win.

EXPLOSIVE DRAMA (NW6000) was parked to the lead, yielded, sat what appeared to be a perfect trip but broke ducking to the rail heading home. Beaten favorite will be hard to beat with any racing luck.

CHOCOUTURE (NW3) left to the top, yielded to the winner, sat pocket and gave it a good try at 15-1 but was second best.

TAG UP AND GO (NW900) took the lead, yielded, retook, never looked back and was totally wrapped up.
