Pocono: Horses to watch from August 26 - August 29

Ken Walters|Sep 01, 2023

Saturday, August 26

TREVORS ACE (NW4400) well-bet second choice rushed up to the third panel, challenged but tired. A better-timed move might get it done.

SON OF A TIGER N (NW9500) had some traffic problems to the half, rallied strongly to challenge the last panel at 27-1 but was second to the front-stepping prohibitive favorite.

INCOMMUNICADO (OPEN) the combo of Svanstedt and George Nap is hard to argue with.

CODE CRACKER (NW13000) set the pace putting away a last-quarter challenger and should be the one to beat in next.

Sunday, August 27

SWEET CAROLINE (NW2/2-3YOF) challenged uncovered the final turn and had a shot but was nailed by the late rush of the odds-on favorite.

DIAMANTE HANOVER (NW1) 2YO wired the field impressively. It would be no surprise if she takes another.

CHUCKY DE VIE (NW6400) tucked to the quarter, pulled to the third panel at 95-1 with the odds-on favorite following his cover, challenged, wore down the speed but was outkicked by the favorite.

SPRINGSTEEN (NW4400) favorite put in a solid wire to wire win in last proving best over the very well-bet second favorite who had the pocket seat.

Monday, August 28

FAMOUS DAN (NW1500) took the early pocket but decided to go to the top, grabbed the lead and never looked back.

HILLASVIVA (NW1) trotter brushed to the 3/4, took the lead and was an easy winner.

TOMBSTONE (NW2) was forced wide by a breaker, rallied but flattened late. Could get luckier in next race or two.

OPTRIX (NW4) flashed some good late speed from third over and should be considered.

Tuesday, August 29

CAPTAIN SKIPPY (NW1) two-year-old wired the field impressively and will win more.

ELISTA HANOVER (NW2/2-3YOF) tucked early at 20-1, rallied the final turn with good trot to be second best to the odds-on favorite.

DANCE ON THE BEACH (NW2800) tucked around slow leavers, raced third over behind a slow-moving flow, rallied wide with good finish. Beaten favorite can get it done with better trip.

ESPERANZA HANOVER (W1-3FM) sat last, showed some late life and bears watching.

SANDBETWEENMYTOES (NW4400) put up some quick fractions in fast victory putting away a last-quarter challenger and would no surprise facing better.
