Pocono: Highalator stretches win streak to seven

Promising 3-year-old colt pacer Highalator scored his seventh consecutive victory thanks to a 1:53 2/5 effort in a $15,000 division of the Bobby Weiss Series Sunday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
Driven by Vic Kirby, Highalator led at the 26 4/5 opening panel, but then was overtaken by Chilln Matisse (Corey Callahan), who would go on to reach the half in 56 1/5 and the three-quarters in 1:25 1/5. Highalator found clearance in the passing lane in the stretch, and once he was shown the clear air, he exploded by Chilln Matisse on his way to a three length decision. Chilln Matisse would hold second, followed by Youcaniknow (Anthony Napolitano).
Highalator, a son of Somebeachsomewhere, is trained by Jenny Bier for co-owners/breeders Daryl Bier and Charles Dombeck. This was his eighth win from ten starts overall, and he has earned $48,120. Highalator's dam, the stakes-winning Western Terror mare Higher And Higher, earned over $923,000 in her career, and Highalator was her first foal. Sent off at 1-9, Highalator returned $2.20 to win.
The colt is eligible to several high-profile stakes events the rest of the year, including the Meadowlands Pace and Breeders Crown.
