Pocono: Freakonomics leads Pennsylvania All-Stars winners

Greg Reinhart|Jul 10, 2017
Freakonomics 7/10/17
Curtis Salonick Freakonomics matched her lifetime mark set on June 20 at Pocono

Freakonomics was the swiftest sophomore pacing filly in Pennsylvania All-Stars competition Monday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, stopping the clock in 1:51 4/5 in the second of four $30,000 sections.

Driven by George Napolitano Jr., Freakonomics led on the outside at the 27 1/5 opening quarter. She cleared beyond that marker, hit the half in 55 4/5 and the three-quarters in 1:23 4/5, and held off pocket-sitting Beach Club (Joe Bongiorno) to win by a neck. Gotthisone Hanover (Matt Kakaley) came in third.

A daughter of Western Terror, Freakonomics is trained by Ross Croghan for co-owner/breeder Let It Ride Stables Inc. and co-owner Dana Parham. This was her fifth career victory, and she has now earned $79,220. The even-money favorite, Freakonomics paid $4.00 to win.

Driver Brett Miller and trainer Richard "Nifty" Norman paired up to upset in a pair of splits as well, taking the third flight with 11-1 Perplexed in 1:52 and the final one with 6-1 Bridge To Tomorrow in 1:51 4/5.

Perplexed is a Somebeachsomewhere filly owned by Cool Cat Racing, Inc. She is now a four-time winner in her life, and she has put away $59,015. She returned $25.20 to win.

Her stable-mate Bridge To Tomorrow is a daughter of Bettor's Delight owned by Bay Pond Racing Stable. She also scored her fourth career triumph, and she pushed her bankroll to $58,430. She paid $15.00 to win.

9-2 shot Pittstop Danika (Kakaley) also downed the favorite in the opening flight, rallying from fourth to first in the final quarter to post a 1:52 victory. The Miller/Norman tandem were the slayed in this split, as their Inverse Hanover was second at 3-5.

Ron Burke trains Pittstop Danika, a filly by Yankee Cruiser, for owners/breeders Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., and M1 Stable LLC. This was Pittstop Danika's seventh stop in the winner's circle, and she now has $131,752 in earnings. Pittstop Danika returned $11.20 to win.
