Pocono: Bombs away in PA All-Stars races on Sunday

Greg Reinhart|Aug 30, 2020

Enough Sun and Tell Them Lou pulled sizable upsets in taking the two $35,000 Pennsylvania All-Stars flights for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers on Sunday evening at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Manticore (Jordan Stratton) was the 1-2 choice in the first grouping, and he forged his way by Tru Lou (Matt Kakaley) after a 27 1/5 opening quarter to take the lead. Manticore remained in the top spot to the half in 54 3/5 and the three-quarters in 1:22 1/5, resisting a first-up bid by Lyons Skipper (Tim Tetrick) to the latter marker. Manticore got rid of Lyons Skipper for good before they turned for home, and looked strong as they entered the lane. However, Enough Sun (David Miller), who angled out two-wide from the three-hole on the final bend and then three-wide for the drive, was full of pace finishing, and he out-footed Manticore to the line to win by half a length in 1:50. Tru Lou finished third.

Enough Sun, a colt by Somebeachsomewhere, is trained by Brian Brown for owner Alan Keith. Unraced as a 2-year-old, Enough Sun has a record of 4-0-2 from eight appearances in 2020, and he has pocketed $48,231. Sent off at 13-1, he paid $29.00 to win.

Miller had the 1-5 favorite, Cattlewash, in the other grouping, and he planted him on the lead beyond the 27 second opening quarter. Cattlewash stole a second quarter breather to get to the half in just 56 seconds, then gave a first-over Seriously Hanover (Corey Callahan) the cold shoulder to the 1:23 1/5 three-quarters and around the last turn. Despite the soft second quarter and repelling of Seriously Hanover, Cattlewash was already under sustained urging by the time they entered the stretch, and 21-1 shot Tell Them Lou (Scott Zeron) capitalized, scooting through the passing lane from the three-hole to prevail by a length in 1:50 2/5. Cattlewash had to settle for second, and early leader Captain Groovy (Tyler Buter) came in third.

Jim Campbell trains Tell Them Lou, a gelded son of Sweet Lou, for owners/breeders Fashion Farms LLC. and Judith Peres. Tell Them Lou has a record of 4-1-5 from 19 career tries, and he has now earned $102,397. He returned $45.20 to win.
