Pletcher's Derby horses will have to meet

Barbara D. Livingston Todd Pletcher trainee Daredevil trains at Palm Beach Downs on Feb. 1.
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – With so many Derby prospects in his barns at Palm Beach Downs, trainer Todd Pletcher conceded Sunday that he likely will have to run some of his trainees against each other in upcoming prep races.
Seven of his 34 Triple Crown nominees were out for serious work Sunday, led by Grade 1 winners Daredevil and Competitive Edge, both nearing their seasonal debuts.
Meanwhile, other trainers have Derby hopefuls, too, including Kiaran McLaughlin, who sent out his Godolphin pair of Imperia and Frosted for Sunday works at the Palm Meadows training center, with Frosted getting a bullet half-mile in 47.40 seconds.
