Kuchar, the sales topper at $500,000, finished second in the American Derby, a race moved from turf to dirt, at Churchill Downs on July 2. Pletcher said that while the horse could make a start at the meet, it wasn’t certain whether it would be on turf or dirt. Montebello, a 3-year-old New York-bred son of Curlin who sold for $375,000, could be a candidate for the $250,000 Albany Stakes here on Aug. 26. Montebello is coming off a first-level allowance win at Belmont on June 30. Diamonds Hands, a 3-year-old filly who was runner-up in the Hilltop Stakes, still has her first-level allowance condition. Relate, a 3-year-old New York-bred son of Connect, just won a maiden $40,000 claiming race by 3 3/4 lengths.
