Plenty of options for Doinghardtimeagain after Great Lady M. win

Steve Andersen|Jul 13, 2014

CYPRESS, Calif. – There was no urgency to plan a stakes at Del Mar for Doinghardtimeagain after she won Saturday’s $200,500 Great Lady M. Stakes at Los Alamitos. She could run in several races.

In her career, which includes five stakes wins, Doinghardtimeagain has won stakes in sprints and around two turns on synthetic and dirt tracks and has placed in stakes on turf. That has left owners Tom and Debbie Stull and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer with numerous choices.

“I don’t know what we’ll do yet,” Hollendorfer said Sunday. “The good thing is there are a lot of options. She can run long, too.”

Races such as the $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes over 1 1/16 miles Aug. 2 or two races Aug. 17 – the $150,000 Solana Beach Handicap for California-bred females over a mile on turf or the $150,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap over 6 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic main track – will be considered.

Doinghardtimeagain has won 6 of 13 starts and $708,766. The Grade 2 Great Lady M. Stakes was her second start of 2014, preceded by a trouble-marred fifth-place finish in the Desert Stormer Stakes over six furlongs June 15 at Santa Anita. Doinghardtimeagain was carried wide on the turn by a rival in that race and was out of contention.

“I don’t think she was 100 percent last time,” Tom Stull said in the winner’s circle Saturday. “She got pushed out about eight wide. It’s great to see her back.”

Doinghardtimeagain was taken out of training last August after a ninth-place finish in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on turf.

“She wasn’t training well,” Hollendorfer said. “We couldn’t put our finger on a single thing. Tom let us turn her out.”

Stull said that Doinghardtimeagain is likely to race again as a 5-year-old in 2015.

“She only 4,” he said. “She will run until she tells us differently.”

The Stulls expect a strong Del Mar meeting. They also own Let Faith Arise, a 4-year-old filly who won the Grade 1 Santa Margarita and the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Let Faith Arise was fourth June 14 in the Grade 1 Vanity Stakes at Santa Anita.

On Friday, the Stulls run Singing Kitty in the $100,000 CTBA Stakes for 2-year-old California-bred fillies over 5 1/2 furlongs. Trained by Steve Miyadi, Singing Kitty won her debut June 16 at Santa Anita.

Hollendorfer plans a busy opening week at Del Mar. In Thursday’s $100,000 Oceanside Stakes for 3-year-olds on turf, he intends to run G. G. Ryder, who won the minor Alcatraz Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on May 11. On Saturday, he starts Morning Fix in the $200,000 San Clemente Stakes for 3-year-old fillies over a mile on turf. Morning Fix was third June 28 in the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes at Santa Anita.
