Pleasanton moves Saturday card to Sunday due to rain; will run Wednesday

With a forecast of inclement weather late Friday and early Saturday, Saturday’s program at Pleasanton has been canceled and will be run on Sunday, according to racing secretary Tom Doutrich.

Because of the cancellation, the track has been granted approval by the California Horse Racing Board to run an additional day on Wednesday, which will be final day of the Golden State Racing meeting that began in October, Doutrich said.

Sunday’s nine-race program will begin at 12:15 p.m. Pacific.

Races that were scheduled for Saturday will be run on Sunday. Races proposed for Sunday will now be run on Wednesday, Doutrich said.

Sunday’s program will include the $75,000 Bay Meadows Juvenile, which drew a field of seven.

The track has a seven-race program on Friday this week that is not expected to be affected by rain. According to accuweather.com, there is a slight chance of rain on Friday, with more than a half-inch expected on Saturday.

Pleasanton canceled a program on Friday, Nov. 22, because of rain, but ran the following two days.

The Golden State Racing meeting was scheduled for 26 days but will race 25, if Sunday and Wednesday programs are held.

California tracks are strongly discouraged from racing in severe weather, following inclement weather policies enacted by the California Horse Racing Board in late 2020. Santa Anita, outside of Los Angeles, canceled six days of racing from early February to late March earlier this year, but did run some makeup days.

Golden Gate Fields in Northern California canceled six days of racing from mid-April to late May earlier this year because of insufficient entries.
