Owner Murray Valene and trainer Dallas Stewart probably would have won the Crescent City Oaks with the filly Accommodate Eva. They scratched her in favor of the Fair Grounds Oaks later on the Saturday card here and won the $100,000 Crescent City Oaks for Louisiana-bred fillies with Platinum Minit.  Platinum Minit required assistance from the stewards to take her rightful place in the winner’s circle. Clearly a Test battled hard in upper stretch to push past favored Lightofmaine and in so doing wore herself out. The tiring filly, racing on a very windy day, strayed off her course three times, first drifting out at about the eighth pole as Reylu Gutierrez on Platinum Minit began a move to go outside her. Gutierrez changed course, going for a hole between Lightofmaine and Clearly a Test that closed when Clearly a Test veered inward. Platinum Minit eventually was able to come into the gap, and once there was bumped again by Clearly a Test. Cleary a Test prevailed by a neck but the inquiry sign was posted, Gutierrez lodged an objection, and Clearly a Test was reasonably disqualified to second.  Platinum Minit, a Valene Farms homebred by Givemeaminit and the Half Ours mare Platinum Lady, won her second race in a row, making her 2 for 2 since Stewart switched from sprints to routes. She was timed in 1:44.02 for one mile 70 yards on a fast track and paid $8.60. Saved By Grace finished third, a neck behind Platinum Minit.   Brian’s Iron Mike was bet like he couldn’t lose the $100,000 Costa Rising Stakes, and he didn’t. Rallying down the center of the turf course under Ben Curtis, Brian Iron’s Mike was home by 2 1/2 lengths in this turf sprint for Louisiana-breds. Unified Report was second, Mangum a mildly closing third in a race that scratched with 10 entrants but only six runners. Allen Landry trains Brian’s Iron Mike for Hat Racing. The 5-year-old gelding, by Iron Fist out of Hildegarde, by Ghostzapper was timed in 1:03.71 for 5 1/2 furlongs and paid just $3.20 as the overwhelming favorite.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
