HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Jenkin won the featured $175,000 Year’s End Stakes on the all 2-year-old card Dec. 29 at Oaklawn for her second win at the meet. She won a maiden race at the same one-mile distance Dec. 6.
The starts were her first two races at two turns, and for the Year’s End effort Jenkin earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 77. Trainer Lindsay Schultz was pleased with the race Jenkin ran in the Year’s End.
“It worked out well that she was able to get in and get behind horses and kind of settle and come out and make a run in the stretch,” Schultz said. “The filly is still learning and maturing. We were so happy with her.”

Schultz trains Jenkin for Shortleaf Stable, which has another stakes-quality 3-year-old filly in Quietside. Jenkin’s plans are to be determined, said Schultz.
“She came back well,” she said. “We’ll just kind of have to see [what’s next]. Obviously, she ran back a little bit quick from her maiden win, so she might have a little bit more time to the next race. We’re looking for something a mile and a sixteenth or longer, and we’ll kind of take it step by step.”
The next 3-year-old filly route stakes at Oaklawn is the Martha Washington, which is the target for Quietside, according to her trainer, John Ortiz.
As for Jenkin, she started her career at the Belmont at Aqueduct meet with a third-place finish to eventual Tempted winner Stunner.
Jenkin is a daughter of Mineshaft and the multiple stakes-winning mare Morning Coffee. A trio of horses she defeated in her maiden race are set to run back in the sixth on Sunday at Oaklawn.
