Plainridge: Shartin betters track record in Clara Barton victory

Shartin clicked off the fastest mile in the history of Plainridge Park in Sunday afternoon's $100,000 Clara Barton Pace for mares, stopping the clock in 1:49 1/5 to lower Maltese Artist's previous mark of 1:49 2/5.
Starting from post three in the field of eight, Shartin went straight to the front, was clear through fractions of 26 3/5, 55 1/5, and 1:22 1/5, and sprinted home in 27 seconds flat to defeat pocket-sitter Apple Bottom Jeans (Corey Callahan) by a length and three-quarters. Kimberlee (Andy Miller) followed in the three-hole throughout and held that position, with Bettor Joy (Marcus Miller) fourth and Dont Think Twice (Mitchell Cushing) fifth.
It was a successful "home game" for Shartin as her co-owner Richard Poillucci is from Massachusetts and got to see his star win in the Bay State.
The victorious 6-year-old Tintin In America mare is trained by Jim King Jr. for owners Poillucci, Joann Looney-King, and Tim Tetrick LLC. This was her 37th career victory, and she has now earned $1,785,118. The 1-9 favorite, Shartin paid $2.20 to win.
