ARCADIA, Calif. - Pizza Bianca, the two-time stakes winner and third-place finisher in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar last month, will remain in training in 2023, trainer Christophe Clement said over the weekend. Pizza Bianca finished sixth, beaten 2 1/2 lengths, in the Grade 1 American Oaks at 1 1/4 miles on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita, after a troubled trip through the stretch. “I thought she ran okay,” Clement said. “It was not a very lucky trip. She ran a good race in the Matriarch and she was placed in a Grade 1.” Owned by Bobby Flay, Pizza Bianca was trained by Graham Motion in the Matriarch and American Oaks but will return to Clement’s care in Florida this winter. “The plan is to give her a little bit of a break and regroup,” Clement said. “There is no reason she won’t have a good 4-year-old year.” :: Get ready for Santa Anita racing with DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports.  In the Matriarch Stakes, Pizza Bianca finished 5 1/4 lengths behind Regal Glory and was beaten a nose for second by England’s Rose. Kimura get 3-day suspension Jockey Kazushi Kimura, who is riding in California for the first time this winter, has been suspended three days for causing interference in Friday’s first race at Santa Anita. Kimura was cited for his ride on Luminiferous, who drifted out on the first turn of a maiden race on turf. Luminiferous finished eighth of nine at 86-1. The suspension covers racing days on Saturday and Sunday and Jan. 13. Kimura, 23, was the leading rider at the Woodbine meeting in Canada that ended last month. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
