Pirate's Trove cruises in Etobicoke
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Arlington shipper Pirate’s Trove won the $111,800 Etobicoke Stakes easily under Florent Geroux on a holiday Monday at Woodbine.
Zensational Bunny set wind-aided splits of 22.29 and 44.66 in the six-furlong dash for 3-year-old fillies while being tracked by Russian Jewel and Gagaoveryou. Pirate’s Trove saved ground in fourth on the turn, and then closed between the leaders in midstretch before drawing off for a 4 1/2-length tally in 1:09.32. Russian Jewel finished a clear second over On Rainbow Bridge, who rallied belatedly after getting carried out very wide exiting the turn.
Pirate’s Trove ($3.30) is unbeaten in three starts, all for Al Shahania Racing and trainer Mike Stidham. She notched her first stakes win by a nose here in the July 20 Duchess.
“She was much better this time than last time out,” Geroux said. “Who knows what she can do? She’s getting better and better. You can put her anywhere you want. I’m looking forward to the future.”
