Pioneerof the Nile’s first winner comes in Russia

Multiple Grade 1 winner and freshman sire Pioneerof the Nile was represented by his first winner on May 12 when Zarnica won her debut race at Rostov-On-Don Hippodrome in Russia.

Owned by Stud Farm 711 and trained by Oleg Kravchenko, the filly completed -the 1,000-meter (about five-furlong) race in 1:06.15. Zarnica is out of the Boundary mare French Line, who is the dam of four winners from six foals to race, including stakes winner Song Warrior. She was a $30,000 purchase by Russian bloodstock group Raut LLC at the 2012 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Pioneerof the Nile stands at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky. for an advertised fee of $15,000. He is represented by 94 foals in his first crop.

Homebred by Zayat Stables, Pioneerof the Nile was one of the leading prospects on the 2009 Triple Crown trail based on the strength of his wins in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity and Santa Anita Derby, as well as victories in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes and San Felipe Stakes. He went on to finish second in the Kentucky Derby to Mine That Bird, and then was retired following the Preakness Stakes.

In total, Pioneerof The Nile won five of ten career races for earnings of $1,634,200.

A 7-year-old son of Empire Maker, Pioneerof The Nile is out of the stakes-winning Lord At War mare Star of Goshen, who is the dam of three winners from five foals to race. He is a half-brother to multiple Grade 2-placed winner Forefathers, who currently stands in Louisiana.
