Pink Lloyd working again, may try turf next
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Canada’s top sprinter Pink Lloyd, who is unbeaten in six stakes starts this year, has a number of options for his next start.
Trainer Bob Tiller said Pink Lloyd could try turf for the first time in the Grade 2, $250,000 Nearctic Stakes over six furlongs on Oct. 15, or wait for the $125,000 Overskate Stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds and upward over seven furlongs on Tapeta on Oct. 29.
Tiller added that the Grade 2, $175,000 Kennedy Road Stakes over six-furlongs on Tapeta on Nov. 25 is also a long-term target.
“We’ll make a decision as to where we’re going to run him,” he said. “Right now, we’re just freshening him up. He’s happy, so all’s well.”
Pink Lloyd, a 5-year-old gelding, returned to the work tab on Sept. 20 for the first time since his win in the Kenora Stakes on Aug. 30. He worked four furlongs in 47.40 seconds on Tapeta.
“He just does it with his ears pricked up in the air,” trainer Robert Tiller said. “There’s no company. If you put a horse beside him, he’ll go in 45. He’s just having fun.”
Tiller said Pink Lloyd grabbed a quarter on his right front after losing a shoe during the running of the Kenora Stakes. Pink Lloyd missed eight days of training following the race, but is now in good order.
“The main concern was when he grabbed his quarter and there was quite a bit of blood,” Tiller said. “He ripped his quarter wide open and we had to patch him. He’s doing good now and he’s sound.”
