Pink Lloyd targets Shepperton Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Pink Lloyd extended his Woodbine stakes winning streak to 11 with a three-length victory in the Achievement Stakes in his most recent start on June 3, and will now be pointed to the $100,000 Shepperton Stakes at Woodbine on July 8.
The Shepperton will be run over 6 1/2-furlongs on Woodbine’s Tapeta for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds and upward.
Like the Jacques Cartier, New Providence, and Achievement Stakes already this season, Pink Lloyd will be looking to win the Shepperton for the second year in a row. Pink Lloyd won last year’s Shepperton by 1 3/4 lengths over San Nicola Thunder.
“He’s from another world, that’s what I think,” trainer Robert Tiller said of Pink Lloyd, the 2017 Canadian Horse of the Year. “He’s a wonderful animal.”
Pink Lloyd crossed the million-dollar earnings milestone with his win in the Achievement, and has now won 14 of his 16 lifetime starts. Tiller said Pink Lloyd has come out of his start in the Achievement Stakes well, but keeping him in top form is a constant worry.
“He’s fine now, perfect,” he said. “But, it’s a seven-day-a-week, 24-hour-a-day worry for me. His is the first stall I go into every day. I’m in his stall four or five times a day, checking his legs. We do all we can to protect him, but we can’t control fate.”
