Pink Lloyd notches ninth straight stakes triumph

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The unstoppable Pink Lloyd lowered Woodbine’s six-furlong synthetic track record while notching his ninth consecutive stakes victory in Saturday’s $114,200 Jacques Cartier.
After breaking from the rail under highweight of 124 pounds, Pink Lloyd tracked the leading Conquest Enforcer through lively fractions. Pink Lloyd hit the front at the eighth pole, and then held off a charging Extravagant Kid to win by three-quarters of a length. His final time of 1:08.05 was .11 faster than the previous record, set by Essence Hit Man in 2011.
Pink Lloyd ($3.10) was the fourth winner on the card for Rafael Hernandez, who got a leg up from trainer Robert Tiller on the son of leading Ontario sire Old Forester. He earned $72,000 for Entourage Stable.
“He’s a great horse,” Hernandez said. “He showed up today. The main thing was to get him to relax.”
Tiller was thrilled with the ride from Hernandez, who was subbing for the suspended Eurico Da Silva.
“I want to thank Rafael for the way he rode him today,” Tiller said. “He got him off the fence when he had the opportunity. He had everything against him — the weight, the layoff, the new rider. I just don’t think it was his best race you saw today.”
In a race with no show wagering, Conquest Enforcer faded to third. Majestic Slew, Tale of the Nile, and Ikerrin Road completed the order of finish.
Inge wins by DQ in Wando
Inge ($10.60) notched his first stakes by disqualification in Saturday’s $102,400 Wando for 3-year-olds.
Machtree rallied wide from fifth to prevail by 1 3/4 lengths over Inge, who had set quick fractions in the 1 1/16-mile event. Machtree drifted in around the eighth pole, into the path of eventual third-place finisher Tale of Vienna, who then impeded Titochip.
Following a long inquiry, Machtree was demoted to fifth, and Tale of Vienna was placed fourth by the stewards.
Gary Boulanger rode the Victor’s Cry gelding Inge in his first stakes triumph. He was claimed by trainer Norm McKnight for owner Bruno Schickedanz for $40,000 here last December, and was coming off a four-race campaign at Oaklawn.
