Pink Lloyd notches 25th stakes win with Ontario Jockey Club

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The remarkable 9-year-old Pink Lloyd won his 25th stakes by what seemed like a measured neck over Souper Hot in Sunday’s $100,000 Ontario Jockey Club at Woodbine.
Souper Hot set a moderate pace in the six-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired runners, with Pink Lloyd pressing him all the way along the rail. Pink Lloyd gained a slim lead early in the stretch and then held Souper Hot at bay to win by a neck, in a time of 1:09.52, which was well off his own track record of 1:08.05.
Told It All wound up third, and was followed by Forester’s Fortune, Dun Drum, and Magical Man.
It was a meet-leading 13th stakes score for Rafael Hernandez, who got a leg up from trainer Robert Tiller on four-time Canadian champion male sprinter Pink Lloyd.
“He was just playing with that other horse,” Hernandez said. “He likes to fight all the time. He’s 100 percent heart.”
All being well, Tiller said, Pink Lloyd will run back in the Grade 2 Kennedy Road here Nov. 27, which could be the final start of his career.
“He’s just an absolutely amazing animal,” Tiller said. “He’s been great for Woodbine and Canadian horse racing. I know there’s people who are going to say this wasn’t an impressive race. Well, wait until you put some speed in front of him. I still stay he’s got a better race than this one in him.”
Pink Lloyd ($3.10) earned $60,000 for Entourage Stable.
There was no show wagering.
