Pink Lloyd as impressive as ever in winning New Providence

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Pink Lloyd won an unprecedented 10th consecutive Woodbine stakes in Sunday’s $100,000 New Providence, with Eurico Da Silva along for the ride.
Pink Lloyd, Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, pressed Marten River through the opening quarter before hitting the front heading into the turn of the six-furlong sprint. Lokinforpursemonee came wide into contention leaving the quarter pole before Pink Lloyd pulled away in the stretch to prevail by 6 1/4 lengths in 1:09.60.
Lokinforpursemonee finished a clear second over Pink Lloyd’s stablemate Goodoldhockeygame. Marten River faded to round out the compact field of older Ontario-sired runners.
Pink Lloyd ($2.10) popped the gate a split second before the others, but the stewards took no action following an inquiry.
“Pink Lloyd is scary, the way he ran,” Da Silva said. “I was [going so] easy at the eighth pole. He was just galloping along. I looked at the screen, and he had three or four lengths [on them]. He did it so easy. He was very sharp in the gate. This is the best horse I ever rode. He’s a very special horse.”
A 6-year-old son of Old Forester, Pink Lloyd earned $63,000 for Entourage Stable and trainer Robert Tiller.
“You’ve just watched this horse win his 10th stakes in a row, and you should really appreciate this horse,” Tiller said. “They just don’t come along. He’s the LeBron James of Canadian horse racing. Does that fit? That’s what I’m saying. Today was an easy race for him. He’s just a monster.”
