Pink Lloyd blazes to fourth straight Vigil Stakes win

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Pink Lloyd took the Grade 3 Vigil for the fourth year in a row Saturday at Woodbine, vaulting over $2 million in earnings and flirting with his own six-furlong track record.
Pink Lloyd saved ground behind a wall of horses in a stalking position on the turn as Not So Quiet and City Boy dueled through hot fractions. Rafael Hernandez angled Pink Lloyd wide inside the quarter pole in search of a clear path, and they mowed down the leaders at the eighth pole en route to a one-length win. His time of 1:08.06 was a mere hundredth of a second off his synthetic-track record, set in 2018 when he was a spry 6-year-old.
Olympic Runner rallied strongly to finish second to Pink Lloyd for the second time in a row. He was followed by City Boy, Eskiminzin, Malibu Secret, Blind Ambition, Roaring Forties, Silent Jimmie, and Not So Quiet.

Pink Lloyd ($3.80) earned $90,000 of the $144,400 purse for Entourage Stable and trainer Robert Tiller. It was the champion sprinter’s 23rd stakes victory.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Tiller said. “He’s 8 years old, and carried 128 pounds. I’m just so thrilled with this horse. He’s so dear to my heart. We believe in him so much. Everybody was looking to get him beat today. All the wise guys thought he was going to get beat. I was very worried. It’s the most nervous I’ve been for a while. He’s going to get two months off now, and he deserves it. We’ll be back in the fall.”
