Pinehurst, Gamine work toward Breeders' Cup

Emily Shields Pinehurst will come into Breeders' Cup Juvenile off a win in the Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 6.
Grade 1 winner Pinehurst and champion Gamine worked Friday at Santa Anita for trainer Bob Baffert in preparation for starts in Breeders’ Cup races on Nov. 5-6 at Del Mar.
Pinehurst, easy winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 6, worked five furlongs in 59.60 seconds. Baffert said last weekend that Pinehurst will not start before the BC Juvenile at 1 1/16 miles.
Gamine, the champion female sprinter of 2020, worked a half-mile in 49.80 for the BC Filly and Mare Sprint. Gamine won the 2020 Filly and Mare Sprint at Keeneland and will be a short-priced favorite in the same race at Del Mar.
Gamine, 4, won the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes on Aug. 28 at Saratoga to remain unbeaten in four starts this year.
