Pimlico: Western Ransom by a head

Jockey Ryan Fogelsonger left little margin for error, but when he asked Western Ransom for a late run in the , the filly responded with a charge that got the pair up for a head victory.

Plenty had set the pace in the Grade 3, $150,000 Martha Washington, running the quarter-mile in 23.67 seconds, the half in 47.56, and six furlongs in 1:11.55. Fogelsonger, in the meantime, kept Western Ransom well back, not asking his mount until after the field turned for home.
