Pimlico stakes spread the wealth among sires
The 15 stakes races at Pimlico between Friday and Saturday were won by runners representing 15 different sires and 15 different broodmare sires. Only one stallion was represented on both lists, as Congrats sired Grade 3 Pimlico Special winner Last Judgement and is the broodmare sire of The Very One winner Caravel.
Congrats, a 21-year-old son of A.P. Indy, stands at WinStar Farm. His standouts are Grade 1 winners Emma’s Encore, Haveyougoneaway, Turbulent Descent, and Wickedly Perfect.

◗ A pair of New York-breds by sires who were New York residents at their time of conception won stakes on Saturday at Pimlico. Somelikeithotbrown, by dual classic winner Big Brown, earned his third graded stakes win in the Grade 2 Dinner Party. He established a course record of 1:40.09 for the 1 1/16 miles. Big Brown has stood in New York since the 2015 season, and the Irish Hill and Dutchess Views Stallions resident has emerged as one of the state’s perennial leaders.
Earlier, The King Cheek battled on to edge favored Hozier in the Sir Barton Stakes. He is from the first crop of Laoban, who enjoyed such breakout success for Sequel Stallions that he moved to WinStar in Kentucky for 2021.
