Pimlico: Rock Lobster rallies

Rock Lobster caught leader Extra Bend in midstretch and went on to a 1 3/4-length victory in the $75,000 Woodlawn at Pimlico. The Woodlawn, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-olds, was the first stakes win for Rock Lobster ($7.20), a Michael Dickinson-trained son of Mt. Livermore.

Independent George, the 3-2 favorite under Mario Pino, grabbed the lead early in the race, and seemed to have everything under control to the far turn. But Extra Bend went past easily turning into the stretch and for a moment looked gone. Rock Lobster and jockey Joe Rocco Jr. rallied wide into the stretch, took aim at Extra Bend, and ran past him a furlong from the wire. Unbridled Behavior finished third.

Rock Lobster, owned by the Flatbird Stable, scored for the second time in five starts. His only previous win came in a Belmont turf sprint in October.
