Black-Eyed Susan Stakes by Byron KingEUPHROSYNE has run well on the lead or from just off the pace and figures to get a nice trip either setting or pressing the pace in a Black-Eyed Susan relatively short of pace; is a consistent miss who comes off some fine winter efforts at Oaklawn; yet to race on an off track, but is bred to like such a surface and with her speed is unlikely to be eating any slop. AMERICA ran an even third in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks Mar. 29 behind In Tune and House Rules going this distance of 1 1/8 miles; another unraced in the slop, but she has a lofty 401 wet-track Tomlinson rating; should be able to save ground into the first turn. STOPCHARGINGMARIA has underachieved in two starts this year after being one of New York’s best 2-year-old fillies of last year; slop works to her advantage - she was second in the Grade 1 Spinaway over it at Saratoga last summer.

Pimlico Special by Marty McGeeThis 1 3/16-mile race certainly shouldn’t lack for pace, as each of the three inside runners all tend to show heels early. That might well set things up for a late runner, the most obvious and ablest of whom is Revolutionary (#6), the deserving 5-2 M/L fave. Although a couple of others such as Cat Burglar (#2) and Carve (#5) are Johnny-Come-Lately types with fine recent form, there’s no denying the class of Revolutionary, and this added distance should allow him to assert his class. Let’s use him as a key over those two, plus a couple others (including a key longshot), while purposely going out of our way to dismiss Valid, who probably can’t go this far, and Moreno, who seems to have tipped to the other side of midnight. The key longshot is Bourbon Courage (#9), who has fared respectably against top horses for much of his career and should also benefit from relaxing off the pace before bidding into the fray; relative unknown jock Goncalves should help in the price dept. The play: Key #6 on top in tri’s and supers while keying #9 in all under horses, like this: 6 with 9 with 2/4/5/8; and 6 with 2/4/5/8 with 9; and other variations thereof if desired.
