HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Pietro Moran, the Eclipse Award-winning apprentice jockey of 2025, will begin riding at Gulfstream Park on Sunday. He will ride here until Woodbine opens in April. “Get some experience. Great colony here. Get a lot of experience, meet some trainers and owners and see what happens,” Moran said Thursday. Moran is named on two horses on Sunday’s card, both for trainer Rachel Halden, a Woodbine-based trainer who winters in South Florida. In 2025, Moran won 140 races from 863 mounts, his biggest win coming with Mansetti in the King’s Plate. Moran finished as the second-leading rider at the Woodbine meet that ended in mid-December. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Moran said he came to Florida shortly thereafter to start getting on horses for a variety of trainers. “I was always going to come down here,” Moran said. “I stayed there to finish out my [apprenticeship] and I stayed a few weeks after my bug ended.” Moran did ride two mounts at Laurel Park on Feb. 14, winning the Post Time Stakes aboard Jokestar. While Moran said he plans to go back to Woodbine this year, he would in the future like to come to the United States “wherever that takes me,” he said. Cliff Collier will serve as Moran’s agent in Florida. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
