Pierce high on Mythical Mission after debut
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Smart Mission’s 2-year-old half-sister, Mythical Mission, debuted with a victory over 6 1/2 furlongs on turf Friday, and that has trainer Malcolm Pierce encouraged about her future.
“She’s acting very professional and ran good,” he said. “We were all happy with the outcome. We’ve always liked her.”
Mythical Mission was set to make her debut in the Shady Well Stakes on Aug. 13, but steady rain and soft turf led her connections to scratch out of the race.
“It rained pretty steady all day; we just couldn’t take a chance to run her,” Pierce said. “We liked her too much to take a chance running her on that day.”
Now that Mythical Mission has graduated from the maiden ranks, Pierce said her options would be determined soon.
“We got set back here,” he said. “We might have been on target for the Natalma if we had run her in the Shady Well, but that all went by us. We wanted to get through yesterday before we looked too far in the future for her and make sure she came out of the race good. Maybe a non-winners-of-two at Woodbine or something. We’ll discuss that with the owners this week.”
