Pick six, pick five carryovers highlight card

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Carryovers in the pick six and late pick five spice up a rather mundane eight-race Thursday card at Aqueduct.
Thanks to Quietude’s $123 upset in Sunday’s seventh race, there is a pick six carryover of $26,214 and a late pick 5 carryover of $32,495. The pick five is restricted to players who wager at a New York track or simulcast facility or are members of the NYRA Bets advance-deposit wagering platform.
There are three maiden races in the pick six sequence and two in the pick five, with perhaps the most interesting horse on the card being Getyourmindright in race 4, the second leg of the pick six and first leg of the pick five.
Getyourmindright, trained by Stephen Lyster, ran three times last winter at Tampa. In his second start, he finished second to Madison’s Luna, who came right back to win the Grade 3 Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream.
Getyourmindright came back to run 10th of 12 in the Columbia Stakes on turf. It was after that race that he underwent a throat procedure, known as a Llewellyn procedure, to correct a breathing problem.
“We’re hoping that holds,” Lyster said Monday. “If it does I think he’s talented enough to win in New York,. That’s kind of why we’re going for the bigger money up there.”
Lyster is based out of the Thoroughbred Training Center in Lexington, Ky., where Getyourmindright fired two bullet workouts in December.
“He did them easy enough, too,” Lyster said. “I’m excited to see him run up there.”
Lyster will be starting his first horse at Aqueduct. He is 2 for 4 at Belmont and 1 for 6 at Saratoga.
Getyourmindright breaks from post 6 in the seven-horse field under Chris DeCarlo.
Master Distiller, a gelding by Street Boss, ships in from Maryland. He has finished second in both of his starts, including to Dream Friends here Nov. 18.
Both the pick six and pick five end with a maiden $50,000 claimer for 3-year-old New York-bred fillies. Wall Street Annie will scratch as she was entered back on Friday.
Pendolino and Kathy’s Cause, second and fourth behind debut winner Bustin Scones on Dec. 22, look like the major contenders. Pendolino is coupled in the wagering with OK Honey, who finished second, beaten a neck, the only other time she has run for a claiming price.
Thursday’s nominal feature is the seventh, a New York-bred second-level allowance-optional $25,000 claimer in which seven of the horses are entered for the claiming tag. Peter’s Project is a 17-time winner and Broadway Bay has won 16 races. Calculated Risker drops out of two races against much tougher company, and he won his last start going 1 1/8 miles around two turns in July at Saratoga.
Local Counsel is the only member of this field in for the allowance condition. He won a one-turn mile maiden race by 9 1/2 lengths two back and finished third in his first try against winners.
