Pick six pays $135K following four-day carryover

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – A favorite didn’t win until the last leg, and the two shortest-priced favorites lost, but there were enough logical winners in Friday’s pick six to avoid a fifth consecutive carryover.

The pick six paid $135,719 to eight winners, all offtrack; the 5-of-6 consolation paid $614.

The winning combination was 12-3-7-1-8-8 on Pagan Ruler ($35.60), Jimmy’s Sweetheart ($8.80), Frivolous Buck ($8.50), Top It ($6.90), Quebrada Shiner ($12.60), and Full N Sassy ($6.90); only the latter was favored.

Bettors chasing a four-day carryover of $415,271 poured another $1,206,135 into the pool, many of them singling Great Press, who ran third at 4-5 in the second leg; and Denomination, who ran fourth at 9-10 in the fifth leg.

There were several close calls for a quintuple carryover in excess of $1 million: Slamm’n Lou (59-1), Won Great Classic (44-1) and Sky Fever (42-1) all finished second.
