Pick six carryover stands at $174,080

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Somewhat surprisingly, the Aqueduct pick six went unsolved for a third consecutive day Sunday. The result is a carryover of $174,080 into the Wednesday card.
With close to $218,000 in new money bet Sunday into a $49,886 carryover, nobody picked six despite four of the winners paying from $6.70 to $9.20. The high prices were $10.40 and $16.
Although there were no winning favorites, three second choices and two third choices won.
One of the more solid plays Wednesday looks to be Can You Diggit in race 8, a second-level New York-bred optional claimer at a mile on the main track. Since winning a statebred allowance at Belmont Park in May, Can You Diggit has chased Twisted Tom in three consecutive stakes.
Twisted Tom has gone 6 for 7 this year while earning more than $640,000. His only loss came in the Belmont Stakes.
Can You Diggit, who is trained by Jimmy Jerkens, finished fourth to Twisted Tom in the $160,000 New York Derby at Finger Lakes in July, second to him in the $250,000 Albany at Saratoga, and third to him in the $300,000 Empire Classic Handicap at Belmont Park on Oct. 21.
It took Can You Diggit five starts before he won a maiden race over the inner track in January. Two starts later, he won at Belmont.
“I like how he’s doing,” Jerkens said. “I think he’s made progress. He’s developed nicely since last spring.”
While Can You Diggit will be getting some class relief Wednesday and the mile distance suits him, the pace may be less than perfect for him.
“It doesn’t look like there’s a lot of speed in the field, which is surprising,” Jerkens said.
Broken Engagement, who is trained by Rudy Rodriguez, finished ahead of Can You Diggit in the New York Derby when he was second, beaten a half-length by Twisted Tom. He faltered in the Albany, though, and finished fourth, almost six lengths behind Can You Diggit.
In his Oct. 8 turf debut at this level at Belmont, Broken Engagement dropped much farther back than usual and finished seventh.
Broken Engagement has more tactical speed than Can You Diggit, and may adapt more easily if the pace is slow.
Beyond the Green has run well at this level several times, but his 22-2-7-4 record does not inspire confidence. He will be making his first start since August for Jimmy Ryerson.
Race 6 is a one-mile maiden race for New York-bred 2-year-olds.
Audible ran an unusual race in his debut for Todd Pletcher, and it will be interesting to see how he progresses. He dropped far, far back early going six furlongs, then finished with a good head of steam to be beaten only 4 1/4 lengths. He galloped out with the leaders.
Audible was a $500,000 purchase at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March auction, and it would not be surprising to see him run a more complete race this time around. At the very least, he should like the added distance.
A feasible alternative is Dark Ops, who was second to the promising nine-length maiden winner New York Hero last time out. Trained by Rodriguez, Dark Ops will be forwardly placed early.
