Pick six carryover reaches $578,231

Steve Andersen|Apr 10, 2004

ARCADIA, Calif. - There is a two-day pick-six carryover of $578,231 at Santa Anita on Sunday after the longshots Toasted ($53.20) and Cinematic ($83) scored surprise wins on Saturday.

The carryover is the second highest of the Santa Anita meeting.

Sunday's pick six covers the fourth through nine races.

The fourth race features a field of nine state-bred maiden claimers over 1 1-16 miles. Enduring Grace, the mount of Javier Santiago, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite, a slight choice over Drought Breaker.

The fifth race is the first of two pick six races run on turf. An allowance race over 1 1-8 miles, there are 11 entrants. Skywalker Red and Fantastic Spain are coupled as an entry at 7-2. Salcombe, trained by Wally Dollase, is the 5-2 favorite on the morning line. Truckee Warrior was scratched on Saturday.

The sixth race is a sprint for 3-year-old maiden fillies. Tizakitty, trained by Jay Robbins, is 5-2 on the morning line, but M.A. Fox and Mystery Mountain are top contenders.

The seventh race is run over six furlongs for California-bred $10,000 claimers. Octavio Vergara was named to ride outsider Teddy's Girl at scratch time.

The race is likely to force bettors to spread their selections. Aetha, Imgunabeinpictures and Passionate Caper will be well-backed.

The $100,000 Providencia Stakes for 3-year-old fillies is the feature race. Run over a mile on turf, the Providencia is led by Mambo Slew, who won two turf stakes in November and January. Ticker Tape, who beat Mambo Slew last month, and Gracefully, who ran well in her U.S. debut, deserve consideration.

The final race is run over 6 1-2 furlongs for maiden claimers.

Finally Blonde was scratched on Saturday, leaving 12 starters. Redmeansgo, trained by Doug O'Neill, is the 5-2 favorite on the morning-line, but must overcome challenges from Missed Connection and Hidden Image.
