OZONE PARK, N.Y. – There are only seven races on Thursday’s card, the final six comprising a pick six that begins the day with a $50,563 carryover after the wager was not hit on Saturday’s Wood Memorial card. Class-dropping Gunner Bay may have found a spot to end a 0-for-13 streak in race 2, a $20,000 claiming event. The combined record for this group over the last 15 months is 4 for 75. Wake Surf goes first off the claim at this level for Rob Atras. In race 3, Tuthilltown makes her 3-year-old debut for Rodolphe Brisset after three placings last year. She gets Lasix for the first time. Garden of Grace, trained by George Weaver, gets blinkers for the first time. Pulling Threads (Chad Brown) and Jordana’s Love (Tom Morley) look like the right ones in race 4, a maiden race for 3-year-old fillies at seven furlongs. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Secured Landing, one of two in here for Fernando Abreu, may benefit from a lack of speed, while High Tide may appreciate getting back on a dry track and the slight class drop for Rick Dutrow. Race 6, a $25,000 claiming race, has many contenders. These include Kavanaugh, who won for $20,000 claiming two back; Lotsa Trouble, who makes a start for the third straight week; and Prove Worthy, who returns from an 11-month layoff. The sequence ends in race 7, a $16,000 claiming race with Patty Cakes making her first start off the Rice claim, She’s Cool dropping in class, and Best Impression going for her third win in her seventh start of the year. ◗ All-sources handle for Saturday’s 12-race Wood Memorial card was $14,786,014, down 36.4 percent from last year’s figure of $23,250,478.
