Pick-six carryover of $68,570 for Thursday
ARCADIA, Calif. – California pick-six carryovers are in the news. The theme continues Thursday at Santa Anita, where a $68,570 carryover should attract more than $300,000 in new money.
The Santa Anita turf will be replaced this summer, but the course still remains functional. With dry weather forecast, both turf races in the Thursday pick six are expected to stay on turf. This is important for pick-six bettors stung by the Golden Gate Fields fiasco on Sunday, when two turf races were moved to the main track after the pick six began.
The Santa Anita pick six (races 3-8) on Thursday includes a potential single in race 7. Below is a look.
Race 3: California-bred 2-year-old maiden fillies sprint five furlongs, led by two second-time starters. My California finished second in her debut; So Heres the Thing adds Lasix after finishing fourth. First-time starter Radish, a full sibling to juvenile stakes winner Sprouts, reportedly is not quick and breaks from the rail. Dixie Chick Rocks has worked well for her debut. For pick-six bettors, it looks like a spread race.
Race 4: A $50,000 claiming race at a mile on turf is another with multiple contenders. Yes Yes Yes stretches back out after a good sprint comeback, Tribal Tribute and Terrys Tom Cat drop from second-level allowance races, and front-runner Batti Man gets a favorable pace scenario in a race light on speed.
Race 5: Miss Star Maker, a runner-up in both recent starts at this California-bred allowance route condition, has established route form and faces a field largely filled with sprinters. Dis Smart Cat won two sprints in a romp; she faces the front-runner Shakeitupbetty. The late-running Sidepocket Run benefits from the pace scenario. Small pick-six tickets might single Miss Star Maker.
Race 6: Distinguishable scored a sharp maiden win last out but drew the rail for her initial try against winners in a race with lots of speed to her outside. Others in the first-level allowance include the route-to-sprint Swissarella, the comebacker Amira J, and the front-runner Oh Great Idea. Pick-six bettors might need to go deep.
Race 7: This starter allowance for filly-and-mare sprinters came up light on pace, a scenario that benefits the front-runner Late ’n Left, a sharp winner last out of a California-bred maiden-claiming sprint. For her initial try against winners, she faces just one main pace rival who is stuck on the rail. Late ’n Left should get a pressing trip in the clear at a short price. Meadow Blossom overcame a tough trip to win her debut; trainer Mark Tsagalakis has won with his last four starters. Conquest So True will roll late.
Race 8: California-bred maidens race a mile on turf. Lord of Chaos is rounding into form, Burnie’s On Board finished fifth in a better-than-it-looked sprint debut, He Could bombed last out but fits off his troubled trip two back, and Anatolian Heat improved last time when switching to turf. It is another tough race. Lord of Chaos is worth gambling on at a middle price.
First post Thursday is 1:30 p.m. Pacific; the pick six begins at 2:30.
