Saratoga

Pick six carryover of $418,098 for Monday's card

David Grening|Aug 23, 2015

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Sunday was a good day for the New York Racing Association.

In the morning, it learned that Triple Crown winner American Pharoah is definitely coming for Saturday’s Grade 1 Travers Stakes. After 11 afternoon races Sunday, NYRA learned there would be a pick six carryover of $418,098 spicing up what is an otherwise nondescript nine-race Monday card at Saratoga.

There were no winning favorites in Sunday’s sequence, which included longshots Bugle Blues ($24.40) and Great Dancer ($19.60). That left half of the 10 runners in the 11th race uncovered in the pick six.

When Stroll On Down ($58.50) won the finale despite drifting out in the stretch - withstanding an objection from the third-place finisher Angel Arroyo on Said No One Ever - the carryover was secure.

Monday’s pick six begins with race 4 (2:39 p.m. Eastern) and includes three turf races and the $100,000 Summer Colony Stakes for fillies and mares on dirt at 1 1/8 miles. Samantha Nicole, a full sister to Rachel Alexandra, is in that field.

Also in the sequence is a 1 1/8-mile maiden race featuring Jess’s Dream, the first foal out of Rachel Alexandra by Curlin. He is the only first-time starter in the eight-horse field.
