Pick six carryover at $194,429

Steve Andersen|Feb 04, 2006

ARCADIA, Calif. - The pick six carryovers continue at Santa Anita. For the 10th time in the first 30 racing days, the pick six was not hit on Saturday's program, leaving a carryover of $194,429 for Sunday's nine-race program.

The program begins at 11 a.m. to accommodate racegoers who want to watch the program and still catch the Super Bowl, which starts at 3:15 p.m., Pacific.

The pick six covers the fourth through ninth races. Typical of racing at this meeting, the fields have decent sizes.

The fourth race has the smallest field, with eight entrants. Run over 6 1-2 furlongs for $45,000 to $50,000 claimers, the race is led by Bonus Pack, the 5-2 morning-line favorite. He is not a standout and must beat Excess Summer, Grey Misty, Roanwiththepunches and Sunset Place.

The fifth race is a starter handicap over 1 1-8 miles on turf. Romanesque, Sky Reality and All Aglow are scratched, leaving a field of 11. While Sweet Gazelle is the 3-1 morning-line favorite, Papillon Rouge, So Happy Together and Letthefreedomroar are 6-1 or less.

There are nine entrants in the sixth race, an optional claimer over 6 1-2 furlongs. Cape Town King, Wheaton Hall and Packy are the leading contenders.

In the seventh race, Ole Cheryl is scratched, leaving a field of 10. Dancing Edie, Early Ronan, and Feel the Heat will be well-backed in the allowance race on the hillside turf course.

The day's main race is the $250,000 San Antonio Handicap over 1 1-8 miles. Buckland Manor, second to Strub Stakes winner High Limit last month, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite, but drew the outside post in a field of nine. Wilko, who was entered in the Strub, will start in the San Antonio after being withdrawn from Saturday's race.

In the final race, Cichetari Miss and Excesseries are scratched. There are 12 runners in a one-mile maiden race on turf for state-breds. She's an Eleven, who drew the outside, is the morning-line favorite, but Andover the Cash and Chula Bel are well-spotted.
