Pick six carryover at $156,727

Steve Andersen|Jun 17, 2006

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - An upset victory by Persistent ($131.20) in a maiden claimer on Saturday has led to a pick six carryover of $156,727 for Sunday's nine-race program at Hollywood Park.

Sunday's pick six covers the fourth through ninth races on an otherwise unimpressive program.

The fourth race is for 2-year-old maidens. EZ Warrior, trainer by Bob Baffert, drew the rail and is the expected favorite.

There are only a half-dozen entrants in the sixth race, an allowance race at six furlongs. The Pharaoh and Shakin N Dancin are top contenders.

The sixth race is an optional claimer at 5 1-2 furlongs on turf, and drew 10 entrants. Ten Downing Street, who has yet to win in this country since arriving from England over the winter, drew post 3. His main contender is Ellwood and Jake, who drew the outside post and Tri Set Slew and Diamond Sucker.

The seventh race is a maiden race at seven furlongs. The well-bred Sweet Way, trained by John Shirreffs, is the morning-line favorite, but there will be support for Feel the Rush. She is trained by Doug O'Neill, whose runners are starting from a 24-hour pre-race detention barn this month. O'Neill stable had a horse test in excess of the permitted levels of carbon dioxide last month, resulting in the detention barn infractions.

The final two races have 10-horse fields. The eighth race is an allowance race at a mile on turf. Heated Rebel, seeking his third straight win, and Budget Surplus, are the leading contenders.

The final race is a maiden race for California-bred 2-year-olds. Flip the Penny, trained by Jose Silva, is the 9-5 morning-line favorite. His biggest threats include Literal, Bells of Excess and Carona Time.
